Virginia wide receiver Billy McMullen has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team in voting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association (ACSWA).

He is UVa’s only first-team selection, but three Cavaliers were named to the second-team-LB Angelo Crowell, S Shernard Newby and P Mike Abrams.

McMullen has caught a school-record 80 passes for 1019 yards and 12 touchdowns and leads the ACC in every receiving category this season. He needs nine receptions in the season finale against Penn State on Saturday to set the conference record for most receptions in a season. The junior from Richmond, Va., is also UVa’s all-time career leader with 138 receptions.

Crowell, a junior from Winston-Salem, N.C., has been one of Virginia’s defensive stalwarts throughout the season. He is currently fourth in the ACC in tackles with an average of 12.5 per game. He has made 137 tackles this season and needs three to break Randy Neal’s school record for most tackles in a season.

Newby, a junior from Dendron, Va., is second in the ACC with five interceptions this season. A starter at safety in all 11 games this season, he has also made 55 tackles, second among the team’s defensive backs. His five interceptions are the most by a Cavalier since 1995.

Abrams, a senior from Aiken, S.C., is a finalist for the Ray Guy Punter of the Year Award. He is second in the conference with a 42.2-yard average. He leads all league punters with 15 forced fair catches and is second with 16 punts buried inside the 20-yard line.

A trio of Cavaliers were named honorable mention all-conference: senior tackle Jermese Jones, senior nose tackle Monsanto Pope and senior guard Evan Routzahn.
