Three Cavaliers won their events at the opener for the indoor track and field season while Eliese Mitchell and Shay Clark qualified provisionally for NCAA’s in their events. Mitchell hit the mark with her toss in the weight throw en route to a pair of third-place finishes while Clark won the 60 inside of the provisional time. Jessica Randolph won the high jump while Shay Clark was victorious in the 60m dash and Jarrett Hagwood took the gold in the 60m hurdles.

Clark, who was second after the preliminary round, bettered his prelim time by .08 to take the gold. Jarrett Hagwood was also second after qualifiers and bettered his time by .18 to 8.03. Randolph, competing in her first meet for Virginia, took the high jump with a leap of 1.67m, 5cm higher than second place.

Kiamesha Otey was a double medallist for the Cavaliers, taking third in both the 60m dash and the long jump. Tim Bilmanis was third in the shot put and sixth in the weight in the men’s division.
