Blacksburg, VA – Eliese Mitchell broke her own school record in the 20-pound weight throw with her toss of 61′ 7″, just edging past her mark of 61′ 4.5″ from last year, en route to a sixth-place finish in the event at the Virginia Tech Invitational today. Kiamesha Otey won the long jump with a season-best leap of 20′ 4″, which was good enough for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Otey also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash after running a season-best 7.50 in the prelims. On the men’s side, Jarrett Hagwood dipped below 8 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles with his winning time of 7.99, the fastest this year for Virginia.

Curtrell Frye also had a season-best leap in today’s meet as she passed 12 meters in the triple jump with a leap of 12.02m. Sarah Folse led a 3-4-6-7 run for the Cavaliers in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:20.37. Teammate Jane Maxwell was right behind her in a time of 17:30.02. Caroline Harvey’s long jump of 19′ 2″ placed her in a three-way tie for 4th in the event.

Hagwood also set a new season-best with his long jump of 23′ 5.25″, which was good enough for sixth place. Matt Antunes took second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:19.72
