Greensboro, N.C. – Virginia’s Chris Rotelli, who helped the Cavaliers win their league opener, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Rotelli, a 5-10, 182-pound junior midfielder from Rumford, R.I., had a role in four of Virginia’s last six goals – including the last three – in its 11-10 victory at No. 5 Maryland on Saturday.

He recorded a season-high four points (2 goals, 2 assists) and played a key defensive role as the Cavaliers held the Terrapins to three goals under their season scoring average. Rotelli assisted on A.J. Shannon’s goal late in the third period to give Virginia a 9-6 lead. His first goal at 13:15 of the fourth quarter put the Cavaliers ahead 10-8, while his final goal with 8:05 to play proved to be the difference.

Rotelli is fifth on the team in scoring with 18 points (11g, 7a).

The Cavaliers return to action against North Carolina Saturday (April 6) in Chapel Hill, N.C. Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
