CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia football fans will be treated to a day of interactive activities on Saturday, April 20 as UVa hosts the first Cavalier Football Festival at the Carl Smith Center home of David Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium.

The festivities kick off at 11:30 a.m. at the West Gate with interactive contests. Scheduled to appear are a Bluegrass band, a magician, a balloon sculptor, and a face painter.

From 11:45 to 12:45 p.m., Alumni football players, including Antwan Harris (1996-99), Chris Slade (1989-92), Chris Harrison (1991-95), Shawn Moore (1987-90), Patrick Kerney (1995-98), and Terry Kirby (1989-92), will hold an Autograph Session.

The Virginia football team will cap off the afternoon at 1 p.m. with a scrimmage.

Fans can register for prize drawings of merchandise, autographed items , season tickets, and game tickets. A few lucky fans will participate in on-field contests. During the first half, a fan will be invited to attempt a field goal from a makable range. If the kick is good, the fan will win a pair of season tickets.

At halftime intermission, members of the student body will compete in two contests. First, the Sigma Chi and Beta fraternities will play a 10-minute four-on-four flag football exhibition. Then five students- Phil Trout, Kent Martin, Hansell Shook, Ilan Kaufer, and David Gutmann– will compete in a punt-pass-kick competition. The winner will accompany Virginia to an away contest next fall.

In the second half, two fans will be teamed with former Cavaliers Shawn Moore (1987-90) and Matt Blundin (1989-91) in the Alumni Quarterback Pass for Accuracy contest.

“We have organized the festival so that there are many opportunities for fans to be interactively involved in the fun and excitement of Virginia football,” head coach Al Groh said. “We need the fans, and we want to give something back to them.”

Admission to all festival events is FREE.
