The Field Hockey team plays at home this Friday, September 13th against William and Mary. The game against the Tribe is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at University Hall Turf Field.
The Cavaliers, 3-0 on the season, defeated Ohio University 3-2 in the season opener and have recorded two consecutive shutouts, 1-0 against Northwestern, and 1-0 against Southwest Missouri State. For the second consecutive year, keeper Emily White (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) was named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week after a total of 17 saves helped Virginia hold off opponents in two shutouts over the weekend.
The Tribe (1-3) opened their season with a 2-3 loss in overtime to Kent State, and then fell to Michigan State 0-1. Their first win, 1-0 in overtime, came at home against Boston University. On the road for their 4th game of the season, William and Mary once again went into overtime, resulting in a 0-1 loss against Northwestern.
Last years match-up was a tie game until a William & Mary penalty corner resulted in the game-winning shot, breaking the Cavaliers’ two-game winning streak, with a final score of 1-2. The Cavs are looking forward to the rematch this weekend.
