GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Darryl Blackstock has been selected as an Atlantic Coast Conference football Player of the Week, ACC officials announced on Monday.

The freshman from Newport News, Va., had 11 tackles (six solo) and a sack in the Cavaliers’ fifth-straight win. The 6-4, 224-pound linebacker leads ACC rookies in sacks this season and is tied as the national leader among freshmen with six sacks, after posting one in Virginia’s 22-17 win over Clemson.

The ACC honor is the first of his career.

Riding a five-game winning streak, Virginia (5-2, 3-1 ACC) hosts North Carolina (2-4, 0-2 ACC) on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for Noon. The contest will be televised by the ACC /Jefferson Pilot Sports Network.
