COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland’s Carey Brennan recorded a match-high 17 kills along with a .484 hitting percentage in leading the Terrapins to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-28, 30-22) victory over the Virginia volleyball team Friday night (November 8) at Ritchie Coliseum. With the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 7-23 overall and 1-13 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Maryland improves to 17-12 overall and 6-8 in the league.

Second-year setter Lily Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 24 assists and a career-high 15 digs to lead UVa. Third-year middle Shannon Boyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) notched eight kills and a match-high three service aces. Second-year outside hitter Celeste Laborde (New Orleans, La./Academy of the Sacred Heart) also tallied eight kills and added eight digs in the match. Third-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) contributed seven kills, while third-year libero Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) registered 10 digs. It is the 25th time this season Ashcraft has reached double figures in digs.

Brennan paced the Terrapins with 17 kills and also added nine digs and a pair of blocks. Lynnsy Jones and Amanda Ayres reached double digits in kills as well with 12 and 10, respectively. Jones also had 13 digs to record a double-double. Setter Lindsay Davey handed out 42 assists and added eight digs, while Sarah Treadwell contributed 10 digs to Maryland’s defensive effort.

The Terrapins posted an impressive .342 hitting percentage with 54 kills, while Virginia hit just .127 with 36 kills. Maryland also held a slight 55-48 edge in digs. Both team recorded four blocks and six service aces.

Virginia returns to action on Tuesday, November 12 when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a 7:00 p.m. match against 12th-ranked North Carolina.
