CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia volleyball team is seeded eighth in the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, which takes place November 21-24 in Atlanta, Ga. at Georgia Tech’s O’Keefe Gym. The Cavaliers will play ninth-seeded N.C. State in the first round on Thursday evening (November 21) at 7:30 p.m.

Virginia enters the 2002 ACC Championship with an 8-24 overall record and concluded regular season ACC play with a 2-14 mark. The Wolfpack stand at 3-31 overall and 0-16 in the ACC. The winner of Thursday night’s match advances to the quarterfinals to play top-seeded and 12th-ranked North Carolina on Friday (November 22) at 1:30 p.m. North Carolina is 28-2 overall and won the ACC regular season title with a 15-1 record.

The Cavaliers swept the 2002 regular season series from N.C. State with identical 3-0 victories. UVa has won 14 consecutive meetings in the series and leads the all-time series to 20-19. In the first meeting of the 2002 season on October 18, Virginia posted to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-21, 30-23) victory over N.C. State at University Hall. UVa won the second meeting on November 16 in Raleigh 3-0 (30-25, 30-19, 30-17).
