WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – University of Virginia volleyball standout Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) is one of six players selected to the 2002 VaSID University Division All-State Volleyball First Team. Sports Information representatives from schools in Virginia select the VaSID All-State team.

The VaSID All-State award is the third postseason honor for Ashcraft. She was named to the 2002 All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team and was also an American Volleyball Coaches Association 2002 All-East Region Honorable Mention selection.

Ashcraft, a third-year, is the only libero to earn VaSID honors. A team co-captain, Ashcraft led all ACC players in digs per game with an average of 4.23. Ashcraft, who was ranked among the national leaders in digs per game during the first half of the season, tallied 499 digs in 118 games. Her 499 digs are the third highest single season total in school history. Ashcraft registered a career-best 29 digs against Clemson (September 27) this season which ties for the eighth best single match total in school history. She reached double figures in digs in 28 of 34 matches in 2002. Ashcraft is ninth all-time at UVa in career digs with 976.

The Cavaliers finished the 2002 season with a 9-25 overall record and 2-14 mark in the ACC.
