CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s tennis team claimed back-to-back 7-0 wins over Richmond and George Washington on Saturday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
With the victories, Virginia improved to a perfect 3-0 overall in dual matches.
“It was a good performance and good preparation for the rest of our season,” Virginia assistant coach Tony Bresky said of the squad’s early dual matches. “We gained some experience and got rid of some of the jitters. The team’s really coming together.”
Against the Spiders, the No. 55 Cavaliers made a clean sweep, winning all doubles and singles matches. Against the Colonials, UVa won the doubles point and swept the singles action.
Freshman Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) captured two wins at No. 1 singles. He teamed with senior Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va.) for a win at No. 1 doubles against Richmond.
Virginia hosts William & Mary on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
