Tuchband Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia women’s tennis player Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J.) was named the ACC Player of the Week Monday by league officials. A fourth-year member of the team, Tuchband led the Cavaliers to two wins over ranked opponents this past week.
On Saturday, Tuchband helped the No. 54 Cavaliers upset No. 14 Kentucky 5-2, giving Virginia the biggest win in school history. In that match, the No. 112 ranked Tuchband defeated No. 89 Amy Trefethen 6-1, 6-2 in singles play. A day earlier, Tuchband picked up a pair of wins in Virginia’s 6-1 win at No. 75 Marshall. In singles play she defeated Alice Sukner in straight sets after teaming with Henriette Williams to upset the No. 35 ranked Marshall team of Sukner and Jessica Johnson.
“Jen is just a competitor and has produced well for us this season,” stated Virginia head coach Phil Rogers. “I am especially pleased that the ACC recognized her for her solid play that we have seen from her for years.”
Tuchband is 4-0 in singles play this season during dual matches and has an overall singles record of 14-3 this year.
The No. 54 Cavaliers return to action on Friday, January 31 as they make their home debut against Old Dominion. The match will be at the Boar’s Head Sports Club and start at 5:00 p.m.
