Men's Golf Tied for First at Turtle Bay Intercollegiate

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Virginia men’s golf team is tied for first place after the opening day at Hawaii’s Turtle Bay Intercollegiate.
The Cavaliers are tied with South Carolina with a 591 (+15). UVa shot the lowest round of the day with a 293 in the first round. San Francisco follows by one stroke with a 592 (+16), while host Hawaii, St. Mary’s (Calif.), and Coast Carolina are tied for fourth with a 599 (+23).
Coastal Carolina’s Alvaro Velasco and Washington State’s Jordan Madison lead the field with a two-under 142 each.
Junior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) paced UVa with a 145 (+1) after firing a season low 70 in the opening round to stand sixth overall. Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) is tied for 10th with a 147 (+3), while sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) follows by one stroke with a 148 (+4). Sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) shot a 151 (+7), whilesophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, Eng.) fired a 161.
Playing as individuals, freshman Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) is tied for 18th with a 149 (+5), while Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 157 (+13) to tie for 57th overall.
Virginia concludes action at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
