CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia men’s basketball team shot 60.3 percent (38-63) from the field, including 47.8 percent (11-23) from three-point range, and had five players score in double figures in a 104-80 victory over Big Apple Basketball in an exhibition game at University Hall on Tuesday night (Nov. 11).

Forward Derrick Byars made 10-11 shots from the field and scored 25 points to lead the Cavaliers. Guard Todd Billet scored 21 points and had five assists, while forward Devin Smith had 20 points and blocked four shots for UVa. Forward/center Donte Minter made all seven of his shots from the field and had 15 points, and forward/center Elton Brown scored 13 points and had a game-high seven rebounds for Virginia.

UVa led 61-35 at halftime after shooting 69.7 percent (23-33) from the field in the first half, including 64.3 percent (9-14) from three-point range.

Guard Tim Winn led Big Apple Basketball with 20 points and four assists.

Virginia plays its second and final exhibition game of the 2003-04 preseason practice period on November 18 when the Cavaliers host the Coaches vs. Cancer All-Stars at University Hall at 7:30 p.m..
