On Saturday, November 15th the Cavalier men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the 2003 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Lake Kristi, Greenville, NC.

The first Cavalier to cross the finish line in the men’s 10K was junior Will Christian with a time of 30:19.9, placing 7th out of a pack of 181 runners. Christian was followed closely by Walton Kingsbery, who finished 13th with a time of 30:30.9. The top 25 runners were named All-Regional runners. The top finishes by both Christian and Kingsbery led the Cavalier men’s cross country team to a 4th place finish out of 23 teams. The Cavaliers defeated teams from Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Clemson.

The top finisher for the Cavalier women’s cross country team was senior Jane Maxwell, who crossed the finish line with a time of 20:41.2, placing 14th out of a pack of 188 runners. Freshman Angie Saterstad was the next Cavalier to finish the 6K run with a time of 21:20.3, finishing in 37th place. Jane Maxwell was named an All-Regional runner. The women’s team, led by Jane Maxwell and Angie Saterstad, finished 8th out of 26 teams.

Virginia will await a bid for NCAA Championships for both the men’s and women’s cross county teams and for individual runners on Monday, November 17th.
