CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team opens the 2004 season at home this weekend with a pair of contests.

In the opener on Friday, Nov. 21, UVa hosts UNC Greensboro at 7:30 p.m. at University Hall.

The Spartans, under the guidance of 23rd-year head coach Lynne Agee, return senior forward Jacinda Lambert, who averaged 12.4 ppg and 5.7 rpg last year. Junior guard Amanda Eaton added 10.4 ppg and 2.7 rpg. In exhibition action, the Spartans walloped WBC Ilirija of Slovenia, 66-27. UNCG held WBC to just 10 points in the second half.

The Hokies, under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Bonnie Henrickson, travel to Charlottesville for their first road contest. Tech returns senior forward Ieva Kublina, who averaged 15.0 ppg and 7.4 rpg last year. Sophomore guard Carrie Mason added 10.6 ppg and 3.4 rpg. Virginia Tech opens its season on Nov. 21 at home with Miami (Ohio).

Virginia, under the guidance of 27th-year head coach Debbie Ryan, is ranked 24th in the USA Today/ ESPN coaches preseason poll and 25th in the Associated Press media preseason poll. UVa, which finished 17-14 overall and third in the ACC, returns all five starters from last season.
