The Virginia men’s relay squads fared well at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, taking home the gold in the Sprint Medley and the bronze in the 4x800m race. The men’s sprint medley team of Kevin Carson, Isi Azeke, Kellen Blassingame and McGavock Dunbar raced home in 3:23.02, defeating the second place team by over two seconds.
A number of Cavaliers hit season bests in the meet, including five women. Ashley Gore’s 400m, Janine Ricci’s steeple run, Cheryl Carr (5K), Lauren Taggart in the pole vault, and Caroline Harvey in the long jump all hit new Virginia bests for 2004. The men pulled the double in the steeplechase as Ryan Neuhart also hit a season-best time in that event for the Cavaliers, as did Walker Anderson in the hammer throw.
Virginia returns to action next Friday and Saturday (Apr. 2-3) back in North Carolina at the Duke Invitational.
