Browns Summit, NC – The Virginia women’s golf team shot a 309 (+21) in the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday. The Cavaliers moved into a tie for 16th with a two-day total of 629 (+53).
Three-time defending champion Duke widened its lead, shooting a second-round score of 282 (-6). The Blue Devils have a two-day total of 571 (-5). Auburn is in second place at 583 (+7), while Wake Forest is third with a score of 585 (+9).
Duke’s Brittany Lang and Vanderbilt’s May Wood are the individual co-leaders at 140 (-4). Auburn’s Nicole Hage and Purdue’s Beth Hermes are tied for third, each with a score of 142 (-2).
Cavalier freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) shot a 75 (+3) in the second round to give her a total of 155 (+11) and a tie for 54th place. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) shot a 75 (+3) of her own to move into a tie for 59th at 156 (+12). Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) carded an 80 (+8), while freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) shot a 79 (+7). Both players are in a tie for 72nd at 159 (+15) Freshman Ashley Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with an 84 (+10), good for a total of 166 (+22) and a tie for 87th.
The final round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. on the par 72 Bryan Park Champions Course.
