CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia baseball team will be the #2 seeded team in the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament on May 25-30 in Salem, Va. at the Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Virginia will face the #7 seeded Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday, May 26th at 5:00 PM. UVa swept Duke three games to none in the three-game ACC series earlier this season in Durham, N.C on April 2-4.
If Virginia defeats Duke, it will face the winner of the #3 Florida State vs. #6 N.C. State game on Thursday, May 27th at 8:30 PM. If UVa loses to Duke, it will face the loser of the FSU/NCSU contest on Thursday, May 27th at 1:30 PM.
Virginia has won the last 10 consecutive meetings with Duke in baseball and the Cavaliers have not lost to the Blue Devils since the 2001 season. In fact, Virginia has won 15 of the last 17 meetings against Duke by posting a 15-2 record against the Blue Devils since the 1999 season. However, the last time UVa and Duke met in the ACC Tournament (May 15, 1997 in St. Petersburg, Fla.), the Blue Devils defeated the Cavaliers by the score of 16-3. Virginia is 1-4 all-time against Duke in the ACC Tournament.
