Virginia’s Will Christian and Emily Harrison earned All-ACC honors with top-10 finishes at the ACC Cross Country Championships, leading the men to a third-place finish with an upset of Duke while the women finished fifth overall, up one place from last year. The men upset #26 Duke and also finished ahead of Clemson, who received votes in the last poll.

Christian led the Cavalier men yet again, taking home a second consecutive All-ACC honor after a tough race that he handled very well. “Will ran a gutsy race and put himself in a position to possibly win,” said head coach Jason Dunn. Behind Christian, the rest of the Cavalier harriers ran a strong race with a pack of four runners in a span of 28 seconds as Soeren Lindner and Ryan Foster finished back-to-back at 25:21.7 and 25:23.6 and Alex Tatu and Andrew Dumm also finished one place apart at 25:43.9 and 25:49.1 to help Virginia edge Clemson 85-87. “The men ran a very smart race,” said assistant coach Dawn Cleary. “They knew where they were the whole time, and they were in eyesight of each other all race long, which helped them along. Foster and Dumm both made up a lot of ground in the race, especially in the final 1000 meters, and that was a big part of our success.”

Harrison earned All-ACC honors in her first ACC meet, taking ninth overall in a time of 22:17.2. Virginia finished fifth at a team, behind four teams ranked in the top 18. “Emily did a great job and worked her way up into the top ten,” said Cleary. “She was patient and raced extremely well.”
