Men's Golf Ties for Eighth at Turtle Bay

KAHUKU, Hawaii- – The Virginia men’s golf team tied for eighth from the field of 19 teams at the University of Hawaii’s Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Wednesday.
Host Hawaii shot the day’s best round to take the team title with a 862 (-2). UNLV, which stood 12-under after the second round, blew its lead by shooting a 301 (+13) in the final round and claimed second instead with a 865 (+1). UC Riverside was third with a 866 (+2). The Cavaliers tied with Oregon State with a 884 (+20) each.
Hawaii’s Cody Wolfenbarger took home medalist honors with a 10-under 206. UC Riverside’s Brendan Steele and San Diego’s Bucky Coe tied for second with a four-under 212 each.
Junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied for 11th with a 217(+1). Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) followed by two strokes with a 219 (+3) to tie for 18th, while sophomore Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with a 224 (+8). Sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Tex.) finished with a 228 (+12), while junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) rounded out the UVa scoring with a 231 (+15).
Virginia has completed its fall schedule and will tee off again on March 6 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.
