CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head baseball coach Brian O’Connor has announced the 2005 Virginia baseball schedule. The Cavaliers’ 2005 schedule features 56 regular season contests, including 34 home games to be played at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. Virginia will also play 30 Atlantic Coast Conference games in 2005 due to the expansion of the ACC from nine schools to 11 with the addition of Miami (Florida) and Virginia Tech.

UVa will begin the regular season portion of its 2005 schedule by playing four road games to start off the year, beginning with a three-game non-conference series at UNC Wilmington on February 11-13 in Wilmington, N.C.. The Cavaliers will then play at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on February 16th before returning home to kick-off their home-opening series.

Virginia will open its home slate with a stretch of seven consecutive home contests, beginning with a three-game non-conference series against Bucknell on February 18-20. Following a single non-conference game with Old Dominion on February 23rd, UVa will finish out its homestand with a three-game non-conference series with Fordham on February 25-27.

The Cavaliers will travel to Richmond, Va. on March 1st to take on Richmond before heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face Wake Forest in a three-game ACC series on March 4-6.

Virginia will return to home action for a season-high 10 consecutive home game stretch from March 8-23, beginning with back-to-back non-conference games against Longwood and James Madison on March 8th and 9th, respectively. UVa will then face Marist in a three-game non-conference series on March 11-13 before hosting Coppin State on March 16th. The Cavaliers will then compete in their first home ACC series by hosting Maryland on March 18-20 before closing out their 10-game homestand with a non-conference game against Richmond on March 23rd.

On March 25-27, Virginia will travel to Blacksburg, Va. to face ACC newcomer Virginia Tech in a three-game conference series before making a stop back in Charlottesville for a single game against Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on March 30th.

The Cavaliers will begin the month of April with four consecutive road games, starting with a three-game ACC series against North Carolina on April 1-3 in Chapel Hill, N.C. before rounding out the road trip with a game in Lynchburg, Va. against Liberty on April 5th.

Virginia will play 16 of its final 23 regular season games at home from April 8 – May 21 to close out the regular season. Included in that stretch of games is six ACC series, beginning with a three-game conference series with N.C. State on April 8-10. UVa will then host Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore in a pair of non-conference games on April 12th and 13th, respectively, before making their next to last ACC road series with a stop in Clemson, S.C. to face Clemson in a three-game ACC series on April 15-17.

Virginia will return to home action on April 20 by facing Longwood in a non-conference game before hosting Georgia Tech in a three-game ACC series on April 22-24. UVa will then meet William & Mary in a non-conference game on April 27th before preparing for its final regular season road series. The Cavaliers will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Florida State in a three-game ACC series in what will be Virginia’s final regular season road series of 2005 on April 29 – May 1.

UVa will then return home where it will play six of its final seven regular season games, beginning with a three-game ACC series against ACC newcomer Miami on May 13-15. The Cavaliers will then make their final regular season road trip with a stop in Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison in a non-conference game on May 17th, before returning home to close out their regular season schedule by hosting Duke in a three-game ACC series on May 19-21.

Following the conclusion of Virginia’s regular season, UVa will compete in the 2005 ACC Baseball Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. which will run from May 24-29.

The NCAA Regionals (June 3-5) and the NCAA Super Regionals (June 10-12) will be held on both campus and determined sites. The 2005 College World Series will be held in Omaha, Nebraska on June 17-27.
