Final Stats

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Virginia women’s basketball team recorded its second win of the season with a 65-55 victory at Cleveland State on Friday.

“We did a really good job rebounding,” said UVa head coach Debbie Ryan. “We were up in the by 23 in the second half, and they made a run, but the game was never in doubt. The younger players saw playing time, we tried different combinations, and it was a good learning experience. We played very hard tonight.”

In the first half, the teams traded baskets before UVa went a run to end the half with 14-point lead, 40-26.

In the second half, UVa pushed its lead to as many as 23 points. The Vikings went on a 13-3 run to end the game.

Senior Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) was the only Cavalier in double-digit scoring with 21 points. Senior LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) added seven points, while four players scored six points apiece. Freshman point guard Sharnee Zoll (Marlboro, N.J.) dished out seven assists.

Junior Erin Martin paced CSU with 14 points, while teammate Mandy Sichting added 11 points.

Overall, Virginia out-rebounded Cleveland State, 46-38.

Virginia returns to Charlottesville for its home opener against Delaware State on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. Former Cavalier Wendy Palmer (1993-96), currently with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, will meet fans and sign autographs prior to the game.
