Robert Morris vs. Virginia
19 November 2004
University Hall

Robert Morris Head Coach Mark Schmidt

“I’m glad it’s over. Virginia is a good team and I’m impressed with the way they played tonight. They played well together. It was a tough first half as Virginia shot the ball very well. They are on a whole different level than us.”

“Our guys really came out and fought during the second half. We only lost by two points in the second half. Our goal was to try to win the second half.”

“We have to play these types of games early in the season and you just want to hang in there. We try to find something positive in each game. It’s tough when you step up to the level that Virginia plays at.”

“He’s [Sean Singletary] good. I really like his game. He can shoot it and has a good stroke and seems like he has a good feel for the game. I like scoring point guards and he can really shoot it.”

“Virginia’s defense was terrific tonight. They came out aggressively. We had some open looks but didn’t knock them down. Their defense was great.”

Virginia Head Coach Pete Gillen

“I thought our guys did a great job, especially at the beginning of the first half. It all started with the point guards. They did a good job pressuring the ball. Our defense was good because our guards started it. We got some steals and easy baskets and that helped us.”

“We got a big lead and lost our concentration and Robert Morris kept playing, to their credit they wouldn’t fold their tents. They are a well coached team.”

“I’m pleased with our defense holding our opponents to 32-percent shooting. That was a great effort and we did a lot of things on defense tonight. I thought we were unselfish tonight.”

“We consider both Sean Singletary and T.J. Bannister as starters. They both are good players, but in the last couple of days I decided on Sean. Sometimes T.J. will play more minutes, sometimes Sean. Sean will probably start Sunday, we’re not going to alternate.”

“I thought Sean played very well tonight. I thought he made some nice passes and played pretty good defense on their point guard.”

“Devin was great-he made shots, had a steal and finished on a break. Second half he gets tired right now. We took him out to try to rest him a bit for Sunday, but we went cold as we had some young guys in there so we had to put him back in.”

“We lost our concentration in the second half. Elton Brown was out for a long period and that hurt us a little bit. Give Robert Morris credit, they executed well, ran some good stuff and made some shots and kept competing. It’s a long game, there will be spurts.”

“We have a whole another world on Sunday with Arizona. They have four players that will probably play in the NBA next year. It’s going to be tough.”
