BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. – The No. 52 ranked Virginia women’s tennis team fell short in their upset bid of No. 43 South Alabama, falling 4-3 to the Jaguars Saturday afternoon at the Huntington Tennis Club. The loss drops the Cavaliers’ record to 3-3 on the season.

Virginia started the match strong, winning the doubles point. The No. 23 ranked team of Diana Srebrovic (Oakville, Ont.) and Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.) won at No. 1 doubles and the team of Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) won at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but South Alabama recorded wins at the four bottom spots of the lineup to get the win. At No. 1, No. 67 Srebrovic remained undefeated in dual match play with her 6-0, 6-3 win over Andrea Kurekova. Wink also posted a singles victory, rallying to beat Maria Zivcicova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, February 16 as they visit William & Mary.
