GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia senior LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) earned ACC Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.
In Virginia’s only game on the week, LaTonya Blue was instrumental in the 63-61 upset of No. 20/21 Maryland on Sunday. The 5-11 guard was the only Cavalier in double figures with a career-high 29 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. She also chipped in seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and no turnovers in 37 minutes of action. Blue nailed a jumper and two key free throws in the final minute of play to seal the win..
After 26 games, Blue leads the Cavaliers in scoring with 12.5 ppg and 15.4 ppg in ACC contests only. After 115 games, she has 1,076 points to rank No. 17 on UVa’s all-time scoring list. Blue also ranks No. 6 in career assists (413) and No. 9 in career steals (209).
The ACC honor is Blue’s second this season and the fourth in her career.
Virginia (18-8, 7-5) travels to No. 8/5 North Carolina (22-3, 10-2) on Thursday, Feb. 24 for a 7 p.m. game.
