Virginia Stands 15th at Lady Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team stands 15th after the first round of competition at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational on Friday.
Wake Forest leads the field of 18 with a 294 (+14), while Duke follows by four strokes with a 298 (+18). Host Florida is third with a 300 (+20). The Cavaliers shot a 317 (+37) in the opening round.
Wake Forests’ Christine Hallstrom and Ashley Hoagland are tied for first with a one-over 71 each. Three players are tied for third with a 72 apiece.
Sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) paced UVa with a 76 (+6) to tie for 23rd. Sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) followed by three strokes with a 79 (+9), while Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) shot an 80 (+10). Freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) fired an 82 (+12), and sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring with an 84 (+14).
Second round action continues at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the par 70 University Golf Course.
