BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team finished third at the Lady Gamecock Classic on Sunday, tying its season-best finish.

Thirteenth-ranked New Mexico captured the team title from the field of 12 teams with a 930 (+66), while Furman claimed second with a 940 (+76). The Cavaliers jumped from fifth to third with a 311 in the final round to finish with a 942 (+78).

Furman’s Jenny Suh won medalist honors with a 224 (+8). New Mexico’s Kailin Downs was second with a 227 (+11), while South Carolina freshman Caroline Rominger took third with a 228 (+12).

Sophomores Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) and Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) tied for sixth with a 235 (+19) each. Sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.,) tied for 19th with a 239 (+23), while sophomore Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) tied for 27th with a 243 (+27). Freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring with a 245 (+29).

Virginia will participate in the Bryan National Collegiate on April 1-3 in Greensboro, N.C.
