SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO-University of Virginia field hockey student athletes Katherine Blair and Mia Link have helped the US Under-21 National Field Hockey Team advance to the semifinals of the Junior Pan American games, which are taking place in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Blair, the starting keeper for the USA, recorded three shutouts in the first three games of the tournament, while Link has scored three goals.
After dispatching Uruguay in the opener, the USA defeated Barbados 6-0 and Canada 1-0 behind Blair in the cage. In the next two games, against Bermuda and Puerto Rico, Link showed off her scoring prowess as she notched an unassisted goal against Bermuda and then scored twice against Puerto Rico. Link scored twice in a five-minute span to help the USA to the 10-0 win. The USA has not allowed a goal in the tournament to date.
The Junior Nationals will next play Chile, who finished second in Pool A, on Thursday (March 24) for a berth in the PanAm finals.
