GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s second varsity eight crew is the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after winning all three races in which it competed at the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic on April 9-10. The Cavaliers defeated Washington, UCLA and California at the two-day regatta, held in Redwood City, Calif.

The Cavaliers established an early lead in their race against Washington on Saturday (April 9), finishing the 2,000-meter event with a time of 6:34.4. The Huskies clocked a time of 6:39.4. Virginia also took the lead during the first 500 meters against UCLA, cruising to a 7:02.5 – 7:18.5 victory.

On Sunday (April 10), Virginia led the entire race against California, winning the event with a time of 6:37.1. The Golden Bears finished the race in a time of 6:45.0.

The crew consisted of the following individuals: Launa Forehand (coxswain), Catelyn Coyle, Crystal MacLeod, Libby McCann, Andria Haneman, Heather Gardner, Sara Lippa, Katie Yrazabal and Chrissie Monaghan.

This is the second time in three weeks Virginia’s second varsity eight has earned ACC Crew of the Week honors. The boat previously earned that title after its performance against Ohio State and Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Dual Regatta on March 26.

Virginia hosts two separate competitions at the Rivanna Reservoir on Saturday (April 16). The Cavaliers compete against Oregon State beginning at 10:00 a.m. and against Tennessee starting at 5:00 p.m. The events are the final home competitions for the Cavaliers this spring.
