CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 72 ranked Virginia women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 25 Wake Forest 5-2 on Saturday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The loss drops the Cavaliers’ record to 5-14 on the season, 1-8 in the ACC, while the Demon Deacons improve to 12-8, 5-4 in the ACC.

The Demon Deacons took an early lead by taking the doubles point. The Virginia team of Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) recorded an 8-5 win over Ashlee Davis and Katie Martzolf at No. 2 doubles. However, Wake Forest picked up the wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to get the opening point.

In singles, Wake Forest won four matches in straight sets to clinch the dual match. Virginia picked up wins in the other two matches in superbreakers. James recorded an upset at No. 2 singles where topped No. 68 ranked Davis 6-3, 1-6, 10-7. Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) also won for Virginia, defeating Danielle Schwartz 6-0, 6-7, 10-3 at No. 5 singles.

The Cavaliers will conclude their regular season on Sunday, April 17 when they host NC State at the Snyder Tennis Center. Match time is noon.
