CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia golfers Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) and Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) have been selected to the 2005 Virginia All-State Men’s Golf Team by the Virginia Golf Coaches Association.

The two-time team captain, O’Connell finished his collegiate career second with a 73.59 stroke average. He had six Top 10 finishes in his collegiate career. An All-ACC honoree, O’Connell shot an even 216 to claim sixth place, his season-best finish, at the Birkdale Collegiate in March. He also fired two rounds of a season-low 68 at the Tennessee Tournament of Champions last October.

Entering his senior season, Tilley was Virginia’s top golfer in 2005 with a 73.00 stroke average. He’s been a member of every starting line-up during his collegiate career. Last season, 14 of his 32 rounds had been 72 or lower with five of those 32 rounds shot in the ’60s. Tilley led Virginia with a career-best third-place finish at the ACC Championship with an even 216 after firing a two-under 70 in the opening round. An All-ACC honoree, Tilley carded a career-best 65 (-7) in the opening round of the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate in April. This summer, he qualified for the U.S. Amateur to be held August 22-28 in Philadelphia.

The Cavaliers open the fall season on Sept. 12 at Tennessee’s Tournament of Champions.
