CLAREMONT, Calif. – Virginia men’s tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Chennia, India) won his fourth qualifying round match in as many days and advanced to the main draw of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic.

Devvarman, who enters the fall ranked No. 12 in the ITA collegiate rankings, defeated Antonio Ruiz 6-2, 6-0 in the final round of qualifying on Monday. Ruiz is a senior at Georgia, who ended last season ranked No. 59 in the ITA rankings.

Devvarman will begin play in the main draw either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The USTA Futures Tour is a professional tour designed for players building their professional careers. Current college players are allowed to play on the tour to gain experience and improve their ranking, while not accepting prize money.
