CARY, N.C. – – No. 7 seed Clemson scored four second-half goals as the Tigers eliminated No. 2 seed Virginia, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament Wednesday night at SAS Soccer Complex. The Cavaliers fell to 12-4-2 on the season while Clemson inproved to 11-4-3.

Ryan Burke (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cavaliers and recorded five saves. Clemson out-shot Virginia, 12-5, but the Cavaliers held a 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.

The Tigers scored their first goal of the game at the 49:44 mark. Randy Albright knocked in a shot from six yards out off a cross from Justin Moore. Clemson struck again one minute and 16 seconds later. Ryan Roushandel knock in a rebound off a Burke deflection to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0, in the 51st minute.

Virginia made it 2-1 after Yannick Reyering (Mettingen, Germany) scored his 12th goal of the season. He blasted a direct free kick from 30 yards that Clemson goalkeeper Phil Marfuggi couldn’t hang on to in the 56th minute.

Clemson then scored in the 59th minute. Dane Richards scored his eighth goal of the season when he found himself 1-on-1 with Burke. He chipped in the shot extending the lead to, 3-1.

Bryson Moore added the final Clemson goal in the 69th minute. He headed in a cross from Richards for the 4-1 lead.

Marfuggi played the entire game in goal for the Tigers. He allowed the one goal and made one save.

Virginia had won the past two ACC Tournament Championships. The Cavaliers will now await selection for the NCAA Tournament on Monday.
