CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – J.R Reynolds scored 20, including 14 in the second half, as Virginia pulled ahead to beat Maryland-Baltimore County 77-66 Wednesday night.

Reynolds was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line for the Cavaliers (5-4).

UMBC (4-7) led by as many as five before Reynolds sank two free throw shots to tie it at 17 with 8:40 left in the first half. The Cavs followed with a 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead. Jerrell Dinkins’ tip-in tied it again at 30 apiece with 2:26 to go before halftime. Jason Cain hit one end of a 1-and-1 and Tunji Soroye made a layup that put the Cavs up by three, and UMBC missed three 3-point attempts in the final two minutes of the half.

UMBC tied it twice in the first seven minutes of the second half before Virginia took the lead for good on two more free throws from Reynolds. The Cavaliers pulled ahead by 13 with 7 seconds left before Dinkins hit a layup in the final second.

Mamadi Diane and Jason Cain each had 16 for the Cavs, and Adrian Joseph had 10. Cain added 12 rebounds.

Reserve Brian Hodges had 23 for UMBC, including six from beyond the arch. Jay Greene added 12.
