Virginia Falls at #24 Boston College, 57-43

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Virginia women’s basketball team dropped a 57-43 decision at No. 24 Boston College on Thursday at Conte Forum.
Virginia fell to 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the ACC, while the Eagles improved to 14-6 overall and 1-4 in the league.
“I thought we got off to a really slow start,” head coach Debbie Ryan said. “We missed a lot of shots and that took us out of it.”
In the first half, the teams battled back-and-forth within a four-point window. Senior Tiffany Sardin (Chicago, Ill.) put the Cavaliers ahead with back-to-back jumpers. The Eagles responded with a 12-1 run to close the half and take a 13-point edge, 29-16, into the locker room.
In the second half, Boston College fired three consecutive treys to go ahead by 21, 39-18 with 17:08 to go. Virginia then went on its only run, 17-6, to come within 10 points, 51-41 with less than three minutes to go.
“I thought we had a chance,” Ryan added. “We have to grow up a little bit.”
Sardin was the only Cavalier in double digits with 12 points. Junior Siedah Williams (Cleveland, Ohio) followed with nine points, while sophomore Denesha Kenion (Oxon, Md.) came off the bench for eight points. Sophomore Sharnee Zoll (Marlboro, N.J.) dished out a game-high eight assists.
Brooke Keenan paced BC with 15 points.
Overall, Boston College out-rebounded Virginia, 37-28.
Virginia returns home to University Hall on Sunday, Jan. 29 for a 1 p.m. game with Florida State. The Regional Sports Network(Fox Sports South, Comcast, SunSports) will televise the game live. All girls aged (eighth grade and younger) will receive FREE admission to the game as part of the school’s celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
