About the Match: The Cavaliers kickoff the 2006 season Friday night when they host Richmond at the Indoor Tennis Stadium at Boar’s Head Sports Club. It will be the first women’s dual match in the new indoor home of Virginia tennis. The Spiders enter the match with a 0-2 record after losses to Marshall and Kentucky last weekend.

New Era: Friday’s opener will be the first dual match at Virginia for new head coach Mark Guilbeau. The 2005 ITA National Coach of the Year at Kentucky, Guilbeau replaced Phil Rogers, who retired after leading the Cavalier program for 23 seasons.

New Home of the Hoos: The Indoor Tennis Stadium is the centerpiece of the $7.5 million expansion of the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The six stadium courts have seating for 1,000 spectators and features two state of the art scoreboards. In the first dual match in the facility on January 25, the No. 1 Virginia men’s tennis team defeated VCU in front of a Virginia indoor record crowd of 527.

Last Time Out: The Cavaliers opened the 2006 season with the UVa Women’s Tennis Invitational two weeks ago, the first event at the Indoor Tennis Stadium. Virginia defeated three top 45 opponents, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Purdue, in three hidden dual matches at the event.

Up Next: The Cavaliers will close out their season opening three match homestand with a doubleheader on Sunday, January 29. Virginia will host Princeton at 11:00 a.m. before hosting Old Dominion at 5:00 p.m.
