Cavs Roll Past Longwood 91-56

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Sean Singletary scored 20 points and J.R. Reynolds had 16 Wednesday night as Virginia won its first ever matchup against Longwood, 91-56.
The Cavaliers (13-9) made seven 3-pointers in the first half, led 58-34 by the break and coasted, allowing coach Dave Leitao to give his reserves some playing time.
The Lancers (7-19) got 11 points each from Clayton Morgan and Kirk Williams and 10 from Dana Smith, but fell to 0-13 on the road. Longwood, which is in the process of moving up to Division I, hasn’t won a road game since November 2003 at Lenoir-Rhyne.
They had no chance in this one, either.
The Lancers shot a sizzling 59 percent in the first half, hitting 13 of 22 shots, but the Cavaliers had almost as many made field goals as Longwood had shots. Virginia was 21-for-34 in the half, nearly 62 percent, and already had enough points to win.
It was almost a carbon copy of what happened in Tuesday night’s game between the schools’ women’s teams, won by the Cavaliers 93-42, also at University Hall.
Virginia improved to 5-0 against in-state rivals this season, including a pair of narrow victories against Atlantic Coast Conference rival Virginia Tech.
Adrian Joseph added 11 points for Virginia, while Singletary and Reynolds each made four 3-pointers. No Virginia starter played more than Joseph’s 28 minutes.
The Lancers, who have been without scoring leader Michael Jefferson since he suffered a season-ending groin injury on Jan. 7, finished shooting just 35 percent.
The Lancers were 2-for-16 on 3-pointers and missed 13 of 29 free throws.
