On Tap This Week: The Cavaliers return home for a doubleheader on Friday, as they host Boston College and Old Dominion. Virginia faces conference newcomer Boston College in the first match, as they open defense of their ACC crown. In the nightcap, Virginia hosts intrastate rival Old Dominion.

Against the Eagles: Friday’s match is the fifth all-time meeting between the schools, and the first as conference foes. Virginia has won each of the previous four meetings, but the teams have not met since 1992.

Against the Monarchs: Friday’s match is the 23rd all-time meeting between the schools with Virginia leading the all-time series 20-2. The Cavaliers have won the last three meetings, including a 7-0 win last season at Boar’s Head in the season opener.

Reigning Champions: The Boston College match is the first ACC match of the season for the Cavaliers, as the two-time defending ACC Champions begin their title defense. Virginia has won 11 consecutive ACC regular season matches, and 17 consectutive matches overall against conference opponents. The Cavaliers have won their ACC opener in each of the past three seasons.

Tough Schedule Continues: The Cavaliers’ 2006 schedule is one of the toughest in the nation. So far this season, Virginia has played all 13 matches against teams currently ranked. Four of those 13 matches were against teams now ranked in the top ten, and eight have been against top 25 teams. 24 of Virginia’s 26 regular season opponents are currently ranked (only Boston College and William & Mary are not), with five in the top ten, 14 in the top 25, and 19 opponents ranked in the top 40.
