Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team opens its 2006 spring schedule this weekend at Florida State’s Seminole Intercollegiate. The 13-team field will compete at the par-72, 6,635-yard Golden Eagle Country Club March 5-7. Seven of the teams in the field are ranked in Golfweek’s current top-50, headlined by No. 11th East Tennessee State. The tournament will feature 18 holes of competition each day.

The rest of the field includes: Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, UAB and Vanderbilt.

Virginia’s lineup will include senior Brad Tilley, freshman Conrad Von Borsig, junior Andrea Signor, junior Eamonn McLoughlin and freshman Daniel Kefale.

Last fall Tilley posted UVa’s best stroke average at 72.73 during five tournament appearances. He led the team in 2005 with a 72.71 average that saw him earn All-ACC honors.

Kefale was right behind Tilley at 73.33 while playing in just two outings. Signor was third on the team at 73.56 and Von Borsig had a solid freshman campaign, playing in four events and sporting a 74.25 stroke average. McLoughlin posted a 75.22 average in three tournament appearances.

Virginia’s top showing last fall was at the CordeValle Collegiate in California. The Cavaliers placed seventh in the 16-team field in their final fall tournament. Last season UVa was fifth at the 12-team Seminole Intercollegiate.
