Charlottesville, VA – The 17th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team completes its spring break week by playing at South Carolina’s Lady Gamecoack Classic. The 54-hole event runs Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 5,966-yard University Club.

Virginia’s lineup will include Leah Wigger, Jennie Arseneault, Carly Truitt, Lauren Mielbrecht and Rachel Smith. Wigger is ranked 29th in the latest Golfweek standings while Mielbrecht is 45th in the standings. Arseneault broke into the top-100 after two tournaments in the 94th position.

The field for this year’s event includes No. 6 Auburn, Augusta State, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Furman, Minnesota, North Carolina State, South Carolina, No. 14 Tennessee and No. 11 Wake Forest. Last year New Mexico took the title with a wind-blown score of 930. The Lobos never shot better than 308. Furman’s Jenny Suh took medalist honors at 8-over 224.

Live scoring of the Lady Gamecock Classic can be found at Golfstat.com. The teams will start at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday using split tees. Sunday’s final round will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Earlier in the week the Cavaliers placed fourth at the 18-team LSU Classic. The Cavaliers shot 11-over 279 during the final round for a three-day total of 894. Virginia was led by Leah Wigger’s 10th-place finish. She shot 3-over 219 during the final round to finish at 3-over 219. It was her fourth top-10 showing this year.
