Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia women’s rowing team is scheduled to compete in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Saturday, April 1, in Columbus, Ohio, at the Griggs Reservoir. Crews from Atlantic Coast Conference schools- Duke and Virginia- will compete against crews from Big Ten schools- Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.

Competition in the morning session is scheduled from 9-10:40 a.m. and in the afternoon session from 1-2:40 p.m. During each session, races will be held in the second novice eight, the first novice eight, the second varsity four, the first varsity four, the second varsity eight, and the first varsity eight.

The Cavaliers’ varsity eight crew, ranked third in the nation, will compete against two other nationally ranked crews at the regatta- No. 4 Ohio State and No. 7 Michigan.

Ohio State’s varsity eight crew enters the regatta ranked fourth in the nation. Virginia competed against the Buckeyes at last year’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge, winning six out of the eight events in which both teams raced. Ohio State finished the 2005 season fourth at the NCAA Championships and second at the Big Ten Championships.

Michigan’s varsity eight crew enters the regatta ranked seventh in the nation. The Wolverines finished eighth in the 2005 NCAA Championships and fourth at the Big Ten Championships. The Cavaliers also raced against the Wolverines in the 2005 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, winning six out of the eight events in which both teams competed.
