Cavalier Women's Tennis Recruiting Class Ranked No. 1

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team’s 2006 recruiting class was ranked the nation’s top class on Friday as tennisrecruiting.net announced its media poll. The Cavaliers received six of the nine first place votes from the panel to take the top spot in the rankings.

The class was the first recruiting class at Virginia for head coach Mark Guilbeau, who was named the 2006 ACC Coach of the Year in his first season in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers’ 2006 class is headlined by two players ranked as blue chip recruits by tennisrecruiting.net. Kristen McVitty (Woodland Hills, Calif.), who ended 2005 as the No. 1 ranked player in the USTA Girls 18s national rankings, and Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.), who has won seven national junior titles. The class also includes two players ranked by the site as five-star recruits, Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Jessica Preeg (Naples, Fla.) along with four-star recruit, Austin Hansen (Santa Monica, Calif.).

Behind the Cavaliers in the top five of the rankings were William & Mary, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Duke. Princeton, UCLA, USC, North Carolina, and Northwestern rounded out the top ten.
