Cavalier Field Hockey Earns National Ranking
Aug. 21, 2006
The Cavalier field hockey team was ranked 19th by the coaches in the STX preseason poll published by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association. The Cavaliers, under the direction of first-year head coach Michele Madison, a veteran of the head coaching ranks, will open up the 2006 portion of the season with Indiana, who was ranked tenth in the same poll.
“I am excited that we are thought of so highly before the games have started,” said Madison. “Now that our preseason is over, let the games begin!”
Virginia faces ten schools ranked in the preseason top-20, including teams 1-5 as Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, Old Dominion, and UNC all dot the Cavalier schedule. Indiana, Boston College, Boston University, James Madison and Richmond also all earned top-20 rankings, while William & Mary, Ohio, Northwestern and Pacific also received votes in the poll.
