Complete Golfstat Results

Daytona Beach, FL – The 15th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team improved its score by eight shots in the second round to enter Sunday’s final round of play at the Fall Preview tied for fourth. After shooting 15-over 303 Friday, the Cavaliers combined for a second-round score of 7-over 295. The 18-team Fall Preview is taking place at The Legends Course in Daytona Beach.

Senior Leah Wigger enters Sunday’s final round in second place at even par 144 after shooting 73 during the second round. She trails Tennessee’s Nicole Smith by two shots. After opening with a 67, Smith shot 75 during the second round. Wigger got off to a strong start, carding three birdies to finish her front nine at 2-under. Bogies on four of her final eight holes hurt her chances of catching Smith for the lead.

Virginia was led in the second round by the 1-under 71 of sophomore Jennie Arseneault. She moved up to 11th overall at 2-over 147 after shooting 76 during Friday’s round. Carly Truitt added a 74 and Rachel Smith a 77 to round out UVa’s second-round scoring. Truitt is 41st at 152 while Smith is tied with teammate Lauren Mielbrecht for 57th at 156.

Georgia continues to lead the field, but only holds a four-shot advantage over SEC rival Auburn after starting the day with a nine-stroke lead. The Bulldogs stand at 584 while the Tigers are second at 588 followed by Duke at 594. Arizona State and Wake Forest are tied with Virginia at 598.

The 18-team field for the Preview includes 15 teams ranked in Golfweek’s preseason top-25 poll. The Fall Preview concludes Sunday with play starting at 8 a.m. Live scoring is on the Internet at Golfstat.com
