The Virginia women’s lacrosse team was selected to participate in the inaugural Stars and Stripes lacrosse exhibition series, an event sponsored by US Lacrosse as a showcase for the National Teams Program. The 2006 event was held at St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes School in Alexandria and featured all three US national teams: the Elite, Developmental, and Under-19 squads as well as Virginia and the Universities of North Carolina and Richmond. The Cavaliers faced both the US Elite team and Richmond in competition. Four current Cavaliers, Blair Weymouth, Jen Holden, Megan O’Malley and Jessy Morgan had a busy weekend as all four are members of the US Developmental Team

Playing on the newly-dedicated Kelleher Field at SSSA, Kendall McBrearty, a graduate of St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes, made her homecoming a spectacular one with a 14-save performance for the Cavaliers. Fourth-year Jess Wasilewski led the Hoos with five of Virginia’s ten draw controls as the Cavaliers stayed even with the Elite team, who won 11 of the 21 draws. Ashley McCulloch led Virginia in scoring with two goals.

In the afternoon game against Richmond, first-year Brittany Kalkstein led the Cavaliers with four draw controls. Second-year Whit Hagerman notched a hat trick and added two assists to lead the Cavaliers in scoring as Virginia rallied from down two to record ten of the game’s last 11 goals.
