The Virginia field hockey team will travel to Harrisonburg to face the James Madison Dukes in a key south regional contest on Wednesday, Oct 11. Wednesday’s meeting will be the 39th contest between the two storied programs; the Cavaliers currently hold a 26-11-1 record in the series. Game time is 6:00 at the JMU Field Hockey/Lacrosse complex.

The Cavaliers (9-4) come into the contest ranked ninth nationally while the Dukes (9-5) are currently 17th. Virginia sits seventh nationally in RPI while JMU ranks 14th. The Dukes are coming off a 4-1 win over William & Mary, a team Virginia defeated 3-1 earlier in the year. In the South, JMU sits at 3-3 while Virginia is 5-1.

Virginia comes into the contest ranked 22nd in scoring average (2.80 pg) whileJMU enters with the nation’s 20th-ranked scoring defense (1.50 pg).

Both teams are led by a talented freshman. The Cavaliers claim Traci Ragukas while JMU counters with Meghan Bain, who is the reigning CAA Player and Rookie of the Week. Ragukas currently ranks 28th in the nation in points per game and 19th in goals per game (.85 pg). Bain ranks 28th nationally in goals per game (.79 pg).

Last year at the University Hall Turf Field, scored in the 69th minute to take a 3-2 lead, but the Dukes answered back with a goal just seconds later, sending the game into extra time. JMU drew a short corner in overtime, but Amy Desjadon, making her first career start, made the save and Virginia scored on a short corner in the 85th minute to upset the No. 15 Dukes 3-2.
