The men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the Pre-Nationals meet at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday, October 14. The Pre-Nationals meet gives teams an opportunity to not only race on the course that will host the NCAA Championships on November 20, but also gain precious at-large points by beating out-of-region foes in an attempt to stamp an at-large ticket to the national meet.

The Cavalier women, ranked 26th in the latest national polls, will face off against ten other teams ranked in the top 30 nationally. These teams include: No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Brigham Young, No. 7 Princeton, No. 10 Providence, No. 11 Iowa, No. 12 Florida State, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 16 Arizona State, No. 18 Minnesota, and No. 21 Michigan State. The women will race in the 6,000 Meter Blue Race at 11:00 a.m. There will be 35 teams in the women’s Blue Race. The women will be led by All-ACC and All-Regional selection Emily Harrison, and by All-Regional performer Kara Scanlin. Third-year Katie Read looks to build on a phenomenal performance at the Roy Griak Invitational where she placed 21st overall.

The men’s cross country team, ranked 16th in the latest national polls, will also face off against ten teams ranked in the top 30 nationally. These teams include: No. 3 Stanford, No. 5 Iona College, No. 9 Brigham Young, No. 14 Michigan, No. 19 and Southeast Regional foe William & Mary, No. 20 Arizona State, No. 21 Notre Dame, No. 25 Florida, No. 28 Eastern Michigan, and No. 30 Cal Poly – SLO. The men will race in the 8,000 Meter White Race at 12:50 p.m. Overall, there will be 35 teams in the White Race. The Cavalier men will be led by fourth-year All-ACC and All-Regional honorees Jan Foerster and Andrew Dumm, and by reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Andy Biladeau.

The Cavaliers will also send a squad to compete at the Tribe Open in Williamsburg, VA. The men will compete in an 8K at 11:00 a.m. and the women will compete in a 6K at 11:45 a.m.

The Cavaliers will next compete at the ACC Championships in two weeks at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, VA. The women will race a 6K at 10:00 a.m. and the men will race an 8K at 11:00 a.m.
