CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Virginia men’s tennis team opened play Thursday at the ITA Mideast Regional hosted by University of North Carolina and Duke University. The Cavaliers have three players at the event, senior Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia), junior Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).

On the opening day of play, the team of Singer and Huey advanced to the round of 16 in doubles with a pair of wins. The duo, seeded No. 10, topped Felix Bernhoerster and Ryan Johnson of Charlotte 8-4 before defeating Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn of Elon 8-4.

In singles, No. 6 seed Huey and No. 17-32 seed Miklo open play Friday after first round byes. Singer dropped his first round match on Thursday, falling to Mariusz Adamski of Wake Forest 6-4, 6-3.

Play continues through Sunday.
