Virginia head women’s lacrosse coach Julie Myers has announced that fourth-year student athletes Jessy Morgan and Jess Wasilewski will serve as the captains for the Cavaliers for the 2007 campaign. “Jessy and Jess have done a great job on and off the field since their first year at Virginia,” said Myers. “It is with great excitement and support from their peers and coaches that they are the 2007 women’s lacrosse captains. We are certain that their direction and leadership will drive the team to compete at the highest level day in and day out.”

Morgan, who earned National Player of the Week honors on March 27, 2006 after the Cavaliers upset Princeton on the road, earned All-State honors and was named to the US National Developmental team in August.

Wasilewski is a two-year starter with the Cavaliers and led all rookies in scoring her first-year campaign. In the 2006 ACC Semifinal against UNC, Wasilewski rallied the Cavaliers from down two late in the game by winning consecutive draws, sparking Virginia to a three-goal outburst in 44 seconds, sending UVa to the title game, where they claimed their third ACC title.

Virginia opens up the 2007 season with a game against ACC rival Virginia Tech on February 21 in Charlottesville. The contest is part of the Commonwealth Challenge, presented by Comcast.
